By Julie Blaustein Jay Adelson of Digg and Mike Vorhaus of Magid Advisors Digital Media Conference West , a one day conference held at the Kabuki Hotel in San Francisco, focused on a wide range of topics  including online video, social media, investments, online advertising, mobile entertainment, mobile apps, the future of news media and the relationship between Hollywood and Silicon Valley. There were also a number of well known digital media  leaders there to speak including Jay Adelson of Digg and Craig Newmark of Craig’s List along with other great speakers from the industry. Bill Trancer of Hitwise and Nick Veronis of Veronis Suhler Stevenson kicked off the conference with their view of the trends of the Internet.

Last year, he did a great job picking apart some of the major problems with Jim Griffin’s Choruss plan (which, again, we’ve been told was supposed to launch in January, but we’re still unfamiliar with any universities — let alone the tens of thousands of students — who have signed up for it). Are Most VCs Dinosaurs Who Need to Hurry Up and Die?

Angel investor and startup advisor Dave McClure The latest salvo in the ongoing debate over the health of the technology venture capital industry comes from investor and startup advisor Dave McClure in a blog post entitled “Moneyball For Startups.” One of the big questions that continue to spark heated discussion is whether angel or “super-angel” funds and investors are inherently better than big traditional VCs, a debate that got a boost recently when venture advisor Paul Kedrosky said there was an angel crash looming . But McClure — whose preferred blogging style consists of lengthy rants filled with capital letters, multiple expletives and seemingly random changes in font color — says that the big problem isn’t size. He argues that most VCs, big or small, are simply approaching the consumer Internet market in completely the wrong way

Dave McClure raises fund, says traditional VCs should ‘die already’

Dave McClure is a well-known investor through the Founders Fund’s angel program and its joint Facebook fund with Accel, as well as his own investments. Now it looks like McClure about to ramp up his activity by raising a new $30 million fund under the name 500 Startups . The fund was revealed through a regulatory filing spotted by the Form Ds website
